Pre-task

The teacher will paste on the classroom board, little pieces of cardboard with the names of some countries and their respective nationalities in order to make a matching exercise. Firstly, he will play pieces of different rhythms that belong to several cultures: reggae, tango, samba, jazz, polka, Arab music, African, Andean, Oriental, Mexican, and cumbia; so the Ss must be attentive in the moment of listening each song. The group will be divided in five teams, each one of them will have the chance to match the country and the nationality they think the song is.

Task cycle

Stage 1: The teacher will give a piece of paper to each team with the following questions:

1. From the music you've just listened to, which one did you like the most? Why?
2. What kind of music do you usually listen to? What do you know about it?
3. Is it possible to find a relation between your favorite music and one of the samples?

Stage 2: The information will be socialized, some of the Ss will express their likes by saying why do they like it and what are their knowledge about it. The others will have the chance to agree with or disagree of them.

Stage 3: Ss will listen to an interview about music around the world. After that, they'll have to write who, when, where, and what is it about. Then, they'll be given a worksheet to fill in the blanks with the interview information.

Stage 4: The teacher will ask the Ss what are the most listened musical genders by them. These genders will be written on the board, and finally, five of them will be chosen. Now, the teacher will explain to the Ss that they'll have to make a very creative poster with the most complete information about one of the five musical genders chosen. The choice will be at random, one of the members of the group takes one little piece of paper with the name of one of the five genders previously put into a bag. They will be taken to to a resource center (library or computer's room) to search for information about the musical gender. They'll have to find origins, famous singers or groups, musical instruments, popular songs, etc.

Satage 5: In the classroom, Ss will make a plan of how they are going to make their poster and their presentations. The teacher will guide the Ss during this process making suggestions, giving advices, in order to give them support (different types of resources and materials) and also to keep the purpose of teh activity. At the end of the class they'll have to give this plan to the teacher.

Stage 6: Ss will make the poster and will prepare their presentations. The teacher will continue guiding them with the aim of make corrections (grammar and pronunciation).

Stage 7: Ss will present their posters and it will be evaluated (oral aspect). After this activitythe whole group and the teacher will make conclusions about the subject, the activity (final work: poster, research information, group work), their participation (motivation, interests), the relevance of the subject (What did they learn about it?).

Stage 8: The final posters will be pasted on the main bulletin board, trying to give them more motivation and the recognition of their effort throgh the whole activity.
